Melissa Bashore

Melissa Bashore is an artist living in downtown Saint Augustine, primarily using watercolors and water-based acrylic paints to create her bright, playful paintings.  Originally from Pennsylvania, Mel grew up in Philadelphia and attended college at the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned her B.A. in Studio Arts.  During that time, she enhanced her creative education by working on staff at the Carnegie Museum of Art, where she found inspiration through her involvement with a large-scale international exhibition in 2005

In 2006, Mel relocated to Northeast Florida and was instantly drawn to the area's abundant waterways and natural beauty.  She utilized her creative passion as both an interior and graphic designer, but it was a series of life-changing events--moving to Saint Augustine in 2011, renovating a house, transforming her garden, and starting a family--that inspired her move to painting.  Her work is influenced by the vivid tropical landscape, a spouse who shares her passion for life and travel, and raising two little boys in the oldest city.
